Almond oil, coconut oil or olive oil for your hair?

I have dry hair and I want my hair to be shiny, soft and healthy. Also, I am having hair loss problems so which one of these oils will help stop my hair from falling. What are the benefits of each and which one is the best?Almond oil, coconut oil or olive oil for your hair?
year ago I suffered very much from dandruff and hair loss too and I started trying everything you can imagine to stop my hair loss.

the things that really worked for me was:

1) Vitamin A - an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp;

2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Good blood circulation in the scalp is important in keeping hair follicles productive. The 'B' vitamins contribute to melanin, which gives hair its healthy color and also stimulates blood circulation;

3) massage is also beneficial. Massage stimulates circulation. As already noted, good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Experts suggest a few minutes of daily head massage by hand. Circulation through massage may be improved by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an almond or sesame oil base with massage;

4) Try rubbing your scalp with garlic juice, Onion Juice or Ginger Juice(you can either of one out of three, Do not mix any of two or three);

5) also he used herbal treatment - TrichoZed or/and Provilluss (do not use Rogaine - it will not work!)

Those are a good products that helps prevent hair loss and contains Biotin and the clinically tested ingredients approved by the FDA to help re-grow your hair.! I think it is very important!

It worked and still works for me!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry TrichoZed but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here

and here

It enhances hair growth by blocking DHT (Dihydrotestostrone) - a major cause of hair loss!

good luck!

Coconut is definately the best, even my friend says so. if you're looking for shiny, strong and healthy hair.

plus it contains no chemicals or additives in it.

It is wonderful to use as a hair conditioner. Beauticians who are familiar with coconut swear by it. It softens the hair and conditions the scalps. Using the coconut oil as a pre-wash conditioner can rid a person of dandruff better than a medicated shampoo.

Coconut oil, a natural ingredient in the highest sense of the word, has always been recognized for its quality of strengthening the structure of damaged, devitalized hair.

Coconut oil lubricates and softens the hair shaft through the action of minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron.
All three, if possible! If you can, mix together all of these, plus an egg and honey and keep in on all day (or all night, but if at night don't use honey!) then wash it out. Soft shiny and beautiful!

If you have to pick one, go with olive oil. Ancient greeks put a dab or 2 in there bath as well, because it is also a moisturizer and has lots of nutrients for your skin and hair.

If you want to get olive oil in your hair take a shower, and pour olive oil (the sixe of a quarter) on your palm and mix it with your shampoo. Lather into your hair. Don't use a lot!!! I repeat, do not use a lot! Even if it seems dry and not working in the shower, if you use too much, you wil come out of the shower looking like you just doused your head in grease! I did this, and 3 hours later I thought my hair was still wet because it was so... oily.

And alternate way is to just pour some olive oil on a cotton ball and swipe it on your roots.

I don't know anything about the health %26amp; hair benefits of Almond or Coconut oil, but I would still say Olive Oil because it is probably cheaper and you can find in practically any grocery store.

Hope I helped!
I used this just yesterday for a pre poo and it was great. It was 50/50 olive oil and coconut oil, my hair was shiny and soft. Make sure you only get extra virgin olive oil and unrefined coconut oil. Both oils penetrate the hair strand deeply to provide both nourishment and moisture. As far as the hair falling I just add an egg to my pre poo oil with a cheapie conditioner like V05/Suave leave on an hour, shampoo with luke warm water, and a final rinse with cold water. HTH
for your hair to stop falling ( getting bald) it's actually banana oil from the banana tree and not the fruit itself, depending where u are it might be difficult to get it, this is the pure natural remedy.

for shine any oil will do, but some are better than the others, the one that gives the best shine is Johnsons baby lotion, just apply to your hair after washing it, don't use to much at first, go slow to see how much oil YOU need to use for your hair. (short hair less oil of course etc)
Coconut and olive are the only oils proven to actually penetrate the hair. So right there I wouldnt bother with almond.

I like coconut oil better than olive because its thicker (you have to buy unrefined virgin coconut oil) but I use both.

Neither one will prevent your hair from falling out as they are only meant to be put from midlength down to the ends. It has no effect on your hair follicles.
All of them benefit your hair, because all of them are fatty oils.

Fat is very important for hair, skin and nail maintenance and growth.

Flax seed oil also helps and is generally cheaper than all of those oils you listed.

It depends on the person, really, as to which one is best.

I can tell you this: diet matters!

Protein and fats are absolute musts! Peanut butter is perfect for this.

Vitamins can also help. Vitamin A and Saw Palmetto (as well as Zinc) can do a lot for your hair.

Of course, commercial products have the highest success rate. Free trial below for a top-notch product used in Europe. Stop suffering and get your self confidence back today! You'll be glad you ordered it today.
Almond oil is the best because it's the lightest BUT try Henna Wax that is brilliant. Shampoo your hair, apply the wax, wrap your hair in cling film and leave for half an hour then rinse out and style.
Coconut oil is good if you want thick full hair.

Olive oil is good to get rid of the dryness.

But I have never heard of almond oil so I have no clue what that is good for.

Good Luck!

What is it that Babassu Oil and Coconut Oil contain which make them good for being used as a fuel?

Oils are hydrocarbons, and therefore contain a lot of chemical energy. Combustion in the presence of oxygen converts that chemical energy into heat by converting C-C and C-H bonds into C-O and O-H bonds.

How to produce virgin coconut oil?

Is it good for people who experience high blood pressure and high blood sugar? How to produce virgin coconut oil?
Good job Matador8..! Virgin coconut oil is also good for the skin and hair. My hair started thinning and I stopped using chemicals (perms, color, etc.), and started using virgin coconut oil and it thickened and softened my hair. Plus it's good to cook with too..!How to produce virgin coconut oil?
you first have to find a coconut thats a virgin. hehehe!!!
dArwin,

First the fresh coconuts are opened and grated. Then the flesh is pressed, yielding a fresh coconut milk emulsion that is approximately 40% oil. The milk is called an emulsion because there is a natural protein that holds the oil in solution. Within about 12 hours, however, the natural enzymes from the coconut will break down this protein, releasing the oil. As the oil floats, it is siphoned off. Coconut Oil is a healthy source of Medium-chain triglycerides (MCT鈥檚), which the body readily absorbs and converts to energy. MCT鈥檚 found in coconut oil support healthy thermogenesis levels. Coconut oil is also ideal for people on low carbohydrate diets.

  • Refined Coconut Oil? Is anyone using coconut oil? How do you use it?

I've read on a label : Coconut oil is hazardous to health if consumed. Yet I've learned that it's considered to be healthy.

Your comments will be highly appreciatedRefined Coconut Oil? Is anyone using coconut oil? How do you use it?
I LOVE to use it on my hair. I learned about using on it hair from Indian women, who all have the shiniest, softest hair I've ever seen. In addition to helping your hair grow, as another mentioned, coconut oil has anti-bacterial and some anti-fungal properties, so it's great for keeping a healthy scalp.

It's good for winter time because it is so rich, but I use it year-round. I live in the tropics, so I don't usually have to heat it up, but heating it helps it soak into your hair better, not to mention softens it if you're someplace cooler than about 76 degrees fahrenheit.

Grocery stores that cater specifically to near or middle-easterners will be your best bet for getting the most at the best price, but I have seen decent deals at online indian grocery stores.

-If your hair is not densely curly like mine, the best way to do use it is to take a generous amount and massage your scalp, then comb through your hair. Once hair is saturated, let it sit for at least an hour or, ideally, overnight --put a shower cap over it so it desn't make a mess out of your sheets. After letting it sit, shampoo it out with a gentle shampoo. (You can shampoo twice if your hair is very fine or straight.)

-If your hair is curly, taking a few drops and working through your hair after you get out of the shower will help keep it shiny and manageable all day long. The curlier your hair, the more generous an amount you can use.

-I've heard that wetting a towel and heating it in the microwave will help the oil work its magic if you wrap it on your hair while the oil is sitting.

-If your hair gets very static-y, a couple of drops rubbed between the hands and on the hair will calm it down and make it shine.

-I also saw it recommended on the Today show that you can put a few drops in your conditioner to make it richer in the winter-time.

-If the smell is too strong, I suggest thinning it down with almond oil. To boost the anti-bacterial/fungal properties, try mixing some amla or neem oil in as well.

After just one or two treatments you should see a big boost in shine and softness.

Enjoy!Refined Coconut Oil? Is anyone using coconut oil? How do you use it?
get organic coconut oil, use at least 3 spoonsful a day.

coconut oil is good for every problem under the sun

it is also good for beauty, killing parasites, weight loss, skin, etc etc etc

i heard of a guy who ate a bowl of coconut everyday for 5 weeks and he got himself cured of HIV
Coconut oil is very good for hair but it has to kept warm other wise it solidfies at lower temperatures. Good for cooking as well as it is natural. Not as good as olive oil though
In small amounts it would be ok. However, we are talking about an oil that is solid at room temperature. That means that its loaded in LDL and VLDL. That is what the label is referring to. So if you are predisposed to high Lipid values, (cholesterol, LDL, VLDL, Triglycerides) or have a lipid metabolism problem, I would steer clear of that stuff.
I use the REFINED coconut oil in my massage practice -- it's wonderful. I'm a professional and go through it pretty fast. It has an excellent glide, but enough drag for deep tissue work. It does NOT stain the linens! It doesn't have enough flavor for fun cooking in my opinion.

I keep the VIRGIN coconut oil in the kitchen -- it tastes great and cooks well. Great on popcorn, in Thai soups, on toast or crackers. It has too much odor for massage, for most of my clients.

As a (former) scientist (Ph.D. biophysics), I have not found the evidence against it compelling -- it's at least as safe as butter or margerine -- in my opinion.

Tell me a good brand of coconut oil, found in New York?

People living in tropics region have benefited from virgin coconut oil. It's good for lotion and acne.

Like other natural therapy, some works successfully for certain people, some don't.

Putting oil on you skin will cause you to break out worse. You can use an acne wash and put on a moisturizer made for skin prone to breakouts. Or if if does not improve see your doctor.
coconut oil is the worse thing you could do. the oil is going to block your pores so they won't be any oxygen going in and you'll break out more. coconut oil is good if you have dry legs or dry hair but on the face its too oily. try a face moisturizer that's oil free and hopefully that helps.

Why are Virgin coconut oil products expensive here in the Philippines?

We have plenty of coconuts here in the country and you can buy a piece of coconut for as low as P4, then why is virin coconut oil products expensive(for me)Why are Virgin coconut oil products expensive here in the Philippines?
because they are virgins!!!!!Why are Virgin coconut oil products expensive here in the Philippines?
    SERIOUS answer:

Virgin coconut oil is produced laboriously and this is the overriding factor why it is expensive even if coconuts are abundant in the country.

Virgin Coconut Oil can only be achieved by using fresh coconut meat or what is called non-copra. Chemicals and high heating are not used in further refining, since the natural, pure coconut oil is very stable with a shelf life of several years. There are currently two main processes of manufacturing Virgin Coconut Oil:

    1. Quick drying of fresh coconut meat which is then used to press out the oil. Using this method, minimal heat is used to quick dry the coconut meat, and the oil is then pressed out via mechanical means (not much elaborate machinery is available or is considered impractical for usage due to high costs and shipping fees and taxes getting the machines in the country).

    2. Wet-milling. With this method the oil is extracted from fresh coconut meat without drying first. ';Coconut milk'; is expressed first by pressing. The oil is then further separated from the water. Methods which can be used to separate the oil from the water include boiling, fermentation, refrigeration, enzymes and mechanical centrifuge.

You see, the process of making it (one single yield will only give you very few liters of that pure unrefined or ';virgin'; coconut extract/oil, or low % yield or recovery and you need to perform another set of the entire process stated above to generate PRODUCTIVE yield, for market supplementation.

LONG laborious multi-step, crude, processing with cheap labor to cost cut in the business venture, span of days to complete the manufacturing process, shelf-life of copra meat sustenance, weather / climatic fluctuations to ';dry'; the copra, few people willing to do labor work (most go after call centers), etc. ARE all equally LIMITING to the retail price of virgin cocount oil. Besides, POVERTY is also another socio-economic problem which directly affects those who venture into this business. THE gain per se is not so worth the investment of labor and profit. Exporting it is more promising.
well because the process of making the virgin coconut oil is very tedious one, have you seen one. I have, and its a very long process,so even if our coconut is cheap the labor and time that makes the original virgin coconut oil is not.
    its cheap not expensive
I disagree, its like sugar , most of your sugar are exported leaving very low stockpile for your own domestic markets and hence pirce inflation.

I figured the same goes to coconut oil and native produce.

Your 14 families ruling business class is to be blamed.
It takes about 12-20 coconuts depending on the size to produce one liter of virgin coconut oil. The coconut has to be matured otherwise it will not produce the right stuff. It also has to be fermented at the right temperature or use a centrifuge machine, which is costly to the manufacturer.

For law abiding manufacturers, they have to apply for BFAD certification, with dozens of testing to ensure it follows the standard (which some BFAD personnel have no clue at all wasting the owner a lot of time and money going back and forth to that agency) One of the many reasons we are a backward country is due to the inefficient ways a lot of our government agencies conduct themselves with the public whom they supposed to serve. Getting BFAD certification will cause the owner more than P100K plus a lot of wasted time.

Packaging is another cost. Virgin coconut oil has to be stored in a glass bottle. Don't get it in plastic because it is an acid (50% Lauric Acid) and tends to sip in through it that's why when you buy it from plastic bottles, the taste is awful. Actually all oils should be in bottles but because ordinary cooking oil are refined bleached and deodorized RBD), we unsuspectingly think that the oil is good but we are cooking with traces of plasticized bottles and potentially rancid oil that we can't really tell because the rancidity odor has been deodorized. With virgin coconut oil, you can immediately determine if it is rancid or not because it is produced without masking its real aroma.

An alternative for you is to create your own oil out of the cocomilk by heating it and allowing all the water to evaporate. You will also have the latik. Use the heated oil as your cooking oil instead of buying bad oils that are hydrogenated, which produced the trans fat that causes a lot of health problems in the last 50 years when the industrialized countries began substituting natural oils like coconut, palm, butter and lard with hydrogenated margarines, soybean, canola and corn oils. While you may not have some of the volatile matters from virgin coconut oil, you still benefit from the antiviral, anti-microbial properties of the heated coconut oil.
Yes I agree to the first answerer. how about this, just like human, you can seldom seen a virgin.. LOL. Its got to be expensive to find and tried one.
Anything popular for sale will have the highest price vendors think they can charge.

Is expeller pressed coconut oil better than centrifugally processed?

I wish to eat it as well as rub it on my skin, so want the best.Is expeller pressed coconut oil better than centrifugally processed?
Either one of those methods can produce good, high quality oil. They can also produce total dreck!!

What's much more important is that you make sure the coconut oil you buy is Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Certified organic isn't a bad idea but it's NOT really all that important since coco palms normally are usually cultivated without chemicals anyway (and organic does NOT mean chemicals can't be used since there's loopholes). I usually buy Nutiva brand simply because it's commonly available, cheaper and easier than making my own.Is expeller pressed coconut oil better than centrifugally processed?
natural is always better than processed. I make my own coconut oil at home. but if you want to rub it on your skin it's better to use the processed one because it doesn't smell too strong.

  • Why do some people say that coconut oil is bad for you?

I've read that there are many benefits. Why do some people say that coconut oil is bad for you?
Because coconut oil has saturated fat. What they forget to say about coconut oil is that there is also good fat in it (polyunsaturated %26amp; monounsaturated). The nutrients in coconut oil outweigh the saturated fat. If you take a teaspoon a day it will actually help you loose weight, give you mental clarity %26amp; beautiful skin by giving your body the nutrients you need. Why do some people say that coconut oil is bad for you?
According to my nutrition book, coconut oil has more saturated fat and less mono- and polyunsaturated fats than any other type of commonly used oil. Saturated fat doesn't really have any health benefits. I haven't done much reading about coconut oil in particular, though. Of course, it can be included in a healthy diet if eaten in moderation, just like anything else. But in my opinion, olive oil and canola oil are much better choices.
Gangs of the coconuts will hunt you down for the murder of their people

DEPENDS ON WAT TYPE OF HAIR TXTURE U HAVE! im african amer. and i use it everyday because i have natural hair which makes it dry. i use coconut oil to nourish it, its for the luster for the hair and oil for the scalp. and omg it smells sooooo good to me i dont know why it would stink unless u r using the unrefined kinds that have no fragrance. but coconut oil really should only be used if u have problems with dry itchy scalp, it even works for dandruff! ps sorry for writing in all caps at the begining, i didnt know that was bad etiquette! =-(

Is 100% coconut oil safe for use on a pregnant woman?

I have read that pregnant woman should avoid using essential oils, but I'm not quite sure why or what they are. Anyone know? And is 100% coconut oil considered an essential oil and therefore to be avoided as well? Thanks! Is 100% coconut oil safe for use on a pregnant woman?
It's a carrier oil, unless you're allergic it's fine. Good for eating too, I cook in it.

Some essential oils are potent medicines and can cause reactions in the body, including miscarriage, hormone changes, heart or circulation changes, preterm labor, and so on. Some are safe and recommended though, including geranium, tangerine, neroli, and some others, all well diluted of course, just a drop or two in a lot of a carrier oil for massage, or used in a diffuser to scent a room. If you use anything in the bath you have to stir the oil into milk before adding to the water. Talk to an herbalist or aromatherapist perhaps. Is 100% coconut oil safe for use on a pregnant woman?
Here is a website that explains eveything on why you shouldn't use on pregnant women and how to use them correctly . You might be able to use it in a bath but read this and it will tell you .

Can I substitute olive oil or coconut oil for 'cooking oil' in cake batter?

Didnt realize that I was out of cooking oil...its late here and I have to bake a cake to drop off at church in the morning!

All I have is pure olive oil and coconut oil! Help!

(its a box of cake mix, if that matters....)Can I substitute olive oil or coconut oil for 'cooking oil' in cake batter?
The olive oil would taste pretty odd, but the coconut oil would work, and you'd just use the same amount.

If you have applesauce on hand, you could use that instead too, and it would be lower in fat!Can I substitute olive oil or coconut oil for 'cooking oil' in cake batter?
Either will work, but the olive oil may not taste right. We cook with coconut oil all the time. Good stuff.
No they are both strong flavored oil, not for baking.
just use a stick of melted butter totally delish! i promise !!!! don't be scared !:):)
Perhaps the coconut oil, but not the olive, as it will affect the taste
Olive oil would probably be better (you dont say if it is extra virgin, cold pressed, etc.) The more refined the oil (olive) the higher the temperature tolerance, ie. Cold pressed extra virgin is more suited to salads whereas light or pure (which is what you have) olive oil should be fine! The coconut oil might be ok but I personally have not cooked with it so cannot vouch for it. The flavour might be too strong and I dont think it has the same heat tolerance....

The coconut, d seed of a palm tree, yields numerous food n non food products. The oil is used in vegetable shortening, non diary creamers, sme spreads, n many commercial baked goods; it is also an ingredient in shampoos, moisturizing skin lotions, soaps, and various cometics. The creamy coconut meat that lines d interior of d nut's hard outer shell is eaten raw or used to flavour ice cream, confectionery products, and baked goods. Coconut milk, d ssweet white fluid from d heart of d nut, is served as a beverage or used as a marinade. It contains virtually no fat.

Dried coconut meat, or copra, is rich in oil. In fact, more than 90% of d fatty acids in coconuts r classified as saturated; remarkably, coconut oil is more highly saturated than d fat in butter or red meat. This high level f saturation results in an oil that resists turning rancid, making coconut oil ideal for commercial baking. However, it is also a major drawback; saturated fats tend to raise blood cholesterol levels. In light of this, people who hav elevated cholesterol levels or any other cardiovascular risk factors are typically advised 2 avoid products made wirh coconut oil.

On d plus side, d fatty acids are easy 2 digest, n a half cup of coconut meat has about 1 mg of iron and a fair amount of fiber.

Or is that just a myth?Is coconut oil actually good for your hair?
Omg its sooo good, it thickens it. If you want thicker hair then you can just use coconut oil and massage your hair with it and leave it for an hour with the oil, then wash it out. But trust me it does much more than just thicken it. Its better than conditioner so you can just use coconut oil before you take a shower and its like conditioner so you dont actually have to use conditioner. But it is really good to make it thicker, shinier, softer, and just all the things conditioner does only more.Is coconut oil actually good for your hair?

Coconut oil is SATURATED fat. the artery clogging stuff. you will put yourself at risk for heart attacks and strokes if you consume too much of it.

Researchers from the Heart Research Institute in Australia studied the body response from eating meals containing good fats versus bad fats. Participants were fed with meals prepared with either coconut oil (high in ';bad'; saturated fats) or safflower oil (high in ';good'; polyunsaturated fats). After only 3 hours, researchers found the participants fed with the coconut meal high in saturated fat had a significantly reduced blood flow due to arteries' reduced ability to expand. After 6 hours, researchers found that the good high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol's anti-inflammatory properties had decreased after the saturated coconut meal, but improved after the polyunsaturated safflower meal. The results of this study were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology in August 2006.Is Coconut Oil good for your heart?
I think you heard something wrong it is not good for your heart
HYDROGENATED coconut oil is bad for you. This particular kind of coconut oil is obviosly hydrogenated, which means that in the process of hydrogenating it, many things in the origional coconut oil change. One of the changes is that more trans fatty acids (TFA) are put into it. These TFAs are very bad for you and can cause a rise in blood cholesterol, which is BAD for the HEART. NATURAL coconut oil, however, is NOT harmful for your heart.

Apparently it's better for your heart than other saturated fats, because it's a long chain saturated fatty acid. If you are going to eat saturated fats, I guess I would eat coconut oil, because it's good for your hair and nails, but otherwise I would stick with mono and polyunsaturated fats.

Where can I buy coconut oil used for SKIN and HAIR?

    hey!

    =)

I'm interested in buying coconut oil to buy on my face and hair because I've heard so many positive responses from other people. But I'm kinda confused. Are they talking about the COOKING OIL? lol Like... the virgin coconut oil?

Where can I buy coconut oil that is okay to use on hair and skin?

thank you so much!Where can I buy coconut oil used for SKIN and HAIR?
Go to a good grocery store or natural foods store, something like Whole Foods or Wegmans. In the oil section, you should find a jar of solid looking white coconut oil. It's solid until you warm it in your hands, then you can use it on your skin and hair. Just take out a chunk, rub it betweeen your palms for a few seconds, and you're good to go. I use it on myself and also on my clients as a massage therapist. Make sure it's virgin, cold-pressed. If you get something at the beauty store, chances are good that it will be a lesser product at a higher price. The natural coconut will work better for you.Where can I buy coconut oil used for SKIN and HAIR?

Does the consumption of coconut oil predispose to heart attacks?

it is said that coconut oil predominantly containing saturated fats leads to atherosclerosis and heart attacks. This is disputed by advocates of the oil especially in Kerala, saying the oil is actually beneficial for health.Does the consumption of coconut oil predispose to heart attacks?
Coconut oil on it's on does not, while the cause for concern is of the hydrogenated families. Here's some info for you.

    Beneficial Oils for Your Health

If you listened to most doctors, you’d have to believe fish oils are fabulous. The problem with getting your essential fatty acids from fish oil is that you get more than you bargained for. Many fish oils, especially those derived from fish livers, are contaminated with dioxins, mercury, organo-chloro pesticides, and PCBs. These toxins can be removed by processing, but the processing results in damage to the essential fatty acids. Are the promises of fish just a false hope? Or is there a way to get the benefits of fish oil without fish? Let’s start by taking a look at what it is in fish oil, and other oils, that provides the essential nutrition your body needs.

Essential fatty acids are substances from fats the body cannot make but must have for health. Essential fatty acids are found in two chemical families, n-3 and n-6. The body uses these fatty acids to make various kinds of regulatory hormones. An n-3 fatty acid can’t be turned into an n-6 fatty acid, and an n-6 fatty acid never becomes n-3. Both kinds of fatty acids are necessary for normal function. The fatty acid expert Udo Erasmus says that the average of consumption of essential, n-3 fatty acids today is one-sixth what it was 150 years ago. From 95 to 99% of the population of North America and Europe simply don’t get the essential fatty acids they need. Are plant oils just as good as fish oils? Some important evidence is in. A study in the British Journal of Nutrition published in October 2002 answered these three key questions:

Can the human body convert a blend of plant oils into the DHA and EPA found in fish oil?

If it can, how much of the plant oils is converted into the essential fatty acids found in fish oil?

And is this enough for good health? In other words, can a vegan diet really provide essential fatty acids?

The answer seems to be yes to all three questions. A study of six female volunteers found that these women’s bodies converted about 36% of the ALA (the plant oil fatty acid) into the fatty acids found in fish oil. A second study of six male volunteers found that these men’s bodies converted an average of 16% of the ALA from plants oils into the same essential fatty acids found in fish oil.

You don’t have to have fish oil to get the essential fatty acids your body needs, but plant oils offer you more than just essential fatty acids.

Almond oil is probably better known for its use in aromatherapy than for its use in the kitchen. The June 2005 edition of the journal Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine even reports that just touching the oil balances the immune system. The result is that T cells fight infection without causing inflammation—an extremely important quality in treating any kind of long-term viral infection, HIV, herpes, and hepatitis among them. For uses in cooking, scientific evidence shows that almond oil increases satisfaction with fewer calories, especially in women.

Adding just a tiny amount of avocado oil to food helps the body absorb the carotenes and their chemical cousins: alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeoxanthin among them. Add a teaspoon of avocado oil to carrots, pumpkin, or sweet potato dishes. Avocado oil is not fattening (and neither are avocados). Recent clinical studies have even found that substituting avocado oil for other oils helps calorie restriction result in weight loss.

Black cumin seed oil protects the liver against environmental toxins, especially chemical compounds containing chlorine.

Borage seed oil is the richest source of the n-6 fatty acids. When there is advanced age, diabetes, high alcohol intake, eczema, cyclic mastitis, viral infections, excessive saturated fat intake, elevated cholesterol levels, and deficiencies of vitamin B6, zinc, magnesium, biotin, or calcium, supplementing the diet with borage seed oil helps balance the body’s pain relief and infection-fighting functions. Up to a tablespoon a day may be helpful in cyclic breast pain, eczema, diabetic nerve damage, and rheumatoid arthritis. It’s always best to consume borage seed oil with other food.

The immunostimulant properties of cold-pressed coconut oil are well known. Cold-pressed coconut oil is a great source of caprylic acid, an antifungal agent the body produces on its own but that is easily supplemented with the oil. If you must fry food, coconut oil is the most stable plant oil, the oil least likely to form harmful byproducts under high heat.

Evening primrose oil, also known as EPO, is perhaps the best-known supplement for fighting inflammation. One of the more interesting findings of recent research is preliminary evidence that EPO can help the repair of the enamel of the teeth. The essential fatty acids in EPO help the body make hormones that relieve inflammation and stop a process leading to hormones that cause inflammation, making EPO helpful for persons who have eczema or arthritis.

Grapeseed oil is a great carrier for the essences used in aromatherapy. Used in cooking, grapeseed oil is an excellent source of the n-6 fatty acids the body needs to balance the n-3’s. Just use in moderation.

Using hempseed oil carries a slight risk of a false positive drug test for THC, especially if you consume more than 4 tablespoons a day. The health benefits of hempseed oil, however, are numerous. Clinical studies from Finland published in April 2005 report that hempseed oil stops itchy skin (due to its content of n-3 and n-6 fatty acids, not due to any marijuana-like effect). Dozens of Chinese studies find that hempseed oil relieves intestinal inflammation.

Who doesn’t know about cooking with olive oil? Like other healthy oils, using olive oil can help lower triglycerides and control cholesterol. Olive oil, however, has some special effects. It contains chemicals that keep the white blood cells known as macrophages from “burrowing” into the walls of the arteries to remove oxidized cholesterol. The “hardening” of the arteries is actually a process of calcifying the macrophages that get stuck in the linings of the arteries. The use of olive oil has been connected with relief (although not cure) of conditions as diverse as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer.

Macadamia nut oil comes from Hawaii, and lowers cholesterol and triglycerides. In women, it may even lower weight without increasing exercise or cutting calories.

Pumpkin seed oil is a terrific source of ALA. This oil is also is a source of some of cofactors of vitamin E that aren’t included in a vitamin E capsule. The best-known use of pumpkin seed oil in alternative medicine is for the protection of the prostate, although it is useful in treating bladder problems and supporting sexual health in both men and women. Use pumpkin seed oil in your shakes, smoothies, or salad dressings. Two bits of advice, however: Keep your pumpkin seed oil in the refrigerator, and, of course, never heat it.

Safflower oil made through commercial refining, bleaching, and deodorizing processes has detrimental effect on red blood cells. As many as one million red blood cells are destroyed when you consume even one tablespoon of the common, commercial product. Cold-pressed safflower oil, on the other hand, is an excellent source of linoleic acid, and unlike many other oils, it produces particles that are very rapidly cleared from the bloodstream. Any effect of safflower oil on lipid levels is very brief.

Consuming sesame seed oil provides the body with a chemical cousin of vitamin E known as gamma-tocopherol. According to a presenter sponsored by the American Heart Association, cooking with sesame oil in place of other edible oils appears to help reduce high blood pressure and lower the amount of medication needed to control hypertension. In a clinical study, using sesame oil as the sole cooking oil for 60 days along with drug treatment lowered patients’ blood pressure levels. By the end of the study, simply using sesame oil allowed doctors to reduce the dosage of high blood pressure medicine by 2/3

Soybean oil is a source of beta-sitosterol. A well-documented treatment for prostate disease, beta-sitosterol also promotes recovery of the immune system after endurance exercise (such as a race, a “big game,” or over-training).

Sunflower oil is a source of vitamins A, D, and E, important for bone, liver, and skin. The July 2005 edition of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association reports that a diet rich in sunflower oil lowers LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and the clotting factors that predispose to heart attack and stroke.

Wheat germ oil is rich in fat but also in phytosterols. The two components of the oil together, however, block the absorption of cholesterol from food. Wheat germ oil is also a terrific source of vitamins E and K. Be sure to protect your wheat germ oil from heat and keep its container tightly closed.Does the consumption of coconut oil predispose to heart attacks?
Coconut oil is a vegetable product that has naturally occurring saturated fats.

Olive oil, when used for cooking, a chemical structural change that makes it susceptible to oxidative damage and increases the risk of disorders such heart disease, among others.

Fresh extra virgin coconut oil is used in baby formulas, to combat diabetes and for skin health.

According to Mary Enig, Ph.D., the nation's leading expert on fats and oils:

';Coconut oil has a unique role in the diet as an important physiologically functional food. The health and nutritional benefits that can be derived from consuming coconut oil have been recognized in many parts of the world for centuries.

A review of the diet/heart disease literature relevant to coconut oil clearly indicates that coconut oil is at worst neutral with respect to atherogenicity of fats and oils, and in fact is likely to be a beneficial oil for prevention and treatment of some heart disease.

    Additionally, coconut oil provides a source of antimicrobial lipids for individuals with compromised immune systems, and is a non-promoting fat with respect to chemical carcinogenesis.';

  • How can a liquid detergent emulsifies coconut oil and water?

Liquid detergent consists of a hydrophilic sulphurous head and a hydrophobic hydrocarbon tail. When detergent is added to coconut oil and water, the head dissolves in water and the tail dissolves in the oil. When the water is agitated, the coconut oil begins to emulsify because the charges on the surface of the coconut oil are now the same, repelling each other, forming globules.

Will I achieve a more intense condition if I sit out in the hot sun with coconut oil on my hair?

I use coconut oil on my hair everynight, and wash it out in the morning. I sometimes sit under a hooded dryer for a while aswell...

I'm going to Turkey soon. Will it be a good or a bad idea to oil my hair with coconut oil and sit out in the sun for a while? Will it help the oil to be absorbed, or will it cause my hair to fry? Will I achieve a more intense condition if I sit out in the hot sun with coconut oil on my hair?
why do you put oil in your hair?

Would it benifit my skin to mix coconut oil and jojoba oil and then apply to my face?

no, but great for your hair!Would it benifit my skin to mix coconut oil and jojoba oil and then apply to my face?
NOOOOOO DO NOT DO THIS!!! you will clog your pores causing acne!!! Coconut oil is too heavy for the face... ANY OIL is too heavy for the face. If you are looking to moisturize it try any OTC Aveeno, Cetaphil, Cerave, Neutragena, or oil of olay moisturizer.... oil free or non-comedigenic, of course!!Would it benifit my skin to mix coconut oil and jojoba oil and then apply to my face?
I think so too..it will def. benefit ur skin. These ppl that say ';no'; know nuthign abt essential oils. They are used to putting chemical crap on their face. I use coconut oil too during nyte cuz during day it messes my makeup.
I believe oils do clog pores, and do cause break outs. This is only if you have naturally greasy skin, but if you have dry skin GO AHEAD!!
Break outs will occur on the best of completions with that oily mix... However, GREAT for hair!!
Many essential oils such as Jojoba, coconut, rosewood, olive, lavender, clove, bergamot are all excellent for skin and moisturizing. Some who have used have mixed two or three together with great success. However most found that it was better to also add grape seed oil, a thin, lighter essential oil, to the mix as it made it easier to massage into skin. Make grape seed about 40 or 50% of mix. Some of the above are used because they have been found by skin specialist not to clog or cause breakouts, and they tend to neutralize oily skins. After many years of research I found oils work best if thoroughly massaged into skin. They then can best feed skin essential nutrients, will help rid it of many blemishes and even the most problematical skin conditions and give you a healthy, glowing, revitalized skin. You will see almost immediate results; skin will look and feel smoother and be tighter . They are perfect natural moisturizers and like any moisturizer you do not remove. After massage you simply splash face with water and dab dry with tissues.

Research my B.A.'s to see feedback from users who have also had these results and reported that massaging with oils kept skin looking young and that it greatly combats aging and helps prevent or diminish lines and wrinkles. Shop around for best prices. Can be bought at Whole Foods, GNC ,Trader Joe's, some Walmart Stores, Cost Plus, Wegmans, Earth Fare, some natural %26amp; health foods stores.

Grape seed oil can be bought in bigger supermarkets

This community is full of people dedicated to growing their hair long, and there's a lot of great advice to read there!

Basically, the best way to grow your hair long:

    1) try to avoid damaging it with heat and chemicals

    2) wear it up as much as possible so that it's not rubbing against stuff or getting caught in it

    3) make sure your shampoo/conditioner react well with your hair

    4) coconut oil can be a huge help -- make sure it's 100% pure and just run a tiny bit (the size of your fingernail) through your hair each day. I do mine before I go to bed at night.

    5) avoid brushing it too much or combing it while it's wet

I hope that gives you a starting place! Good luck! :)Would anything happen if i mixed garlic powder MSM and coconut oil together and put it into my hair?

Coconut oil is a perfect moisturizer. It is best to get extra virgin. It is not hydrogenated, bleached, refined, or deodorized using chemicals.

It is very economical as it is a thin consistency so you use less than thicker oils like olive. It has a mild pleasant odor. Does not leave face oily looking. Simple wipe away surface excess with water and tissues.

  • Does coconut oil promote hair growth in African American and if so how much?

Please give me testimonies! Does coconut oil promote hair growth in African American and if so how much?
Coconut is a carrier oil and is healthier than the products found in stores, however..alone it cannot promote hair growth. Essential oils such as tea tree, rosemary, lavender, and thyme promote hair growth when massaged on to the scalp with a carrier oil (like cocout). People with both natural hair and relaxed hair can use essential oils and carrier oils on their hair.

Stimulation of the scalp produces hair growth as well as taking vitamins and having a healthy diet. Does coconut oil promote hair growth in African American and if so how much?
Like the others have said, hair growth is based on genetics and how well you maintain your hair. There are things you can do to achieve your optimal growth rate such as massaging your scalp frequently; massaging your scalp with an essential oil like Lavender, because essential oils mimics the hair's natural oil, sebum, which is what your hair needs to stay nourished; keeping the scalp clean; and the hair moisturized. Also, low manipulation of your hair will help increase hair retention. You want to focus on retaining length because it doesn't matter how fast your hair grows if it keeps breaking off.

There are many essential oils to choose from, like lemon oil. I'm not sure if coconut oils is considered an essential oil, though. Now, I don't know if you want to put these oils in your hair if you're relaxed, but for natural hair it needs oils and moisture, but relaxed hair is taken care of differently.
No - hair growth is determined by season (faster in the summer and slower in the winter), genetics, and nutrition (if you eat well then your hair grows in faster and healthier). Nothing you can apply externally makes it grow faster, unfortunately.

The one thing that external application can do is keep hair in good condition so it doesn't break off at the ends or need cutting as often.
No I don't think so. Your hair growth is determined by your genes and how you take care of your hair. I'm black and when I was younger my mom always used pantene for women of color on my hair and it was beautiful and strong. Just the normal relaxer then she put it in while my hair was wet and styled it. I didn't get a wash everyday. No blow dry because it would dry out my hair. I only got it washed when necessary. Our hair needs the natural oils to stay moisturized. We cant wash it everyday like the white girls lol. Our hair is more prone to breakage. Which might be the reason it seems like its not growing.
